Pandit Parimal Chakraborty is a powerful tabla player. He gives new life to the ideas of his numerous gurus, who have included his father Nikhil Chandra Chakrabarty, Pandit Ram Dhrubey, and Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, the singing percussionist of the Farukhabad gharana. From 1976 onwards he studied under Pandit Shankar Ghosh, another versatile Farukhabad maestro.
Today he bases his playing on the ideas of this gharana without limiting himself to it, accompanying a host of top artists with sensitivity and regularly appearing on Indian national TV. He is renowned for superb teaching, and takes classical tabla around the world with a busy schedule of international concerts.
